Commemorative hand-carved breadboards and wooden kitchenware

Pub Shed Sign.

Posted on

I was contacted by Charlotte in the Spring and asked if I could create a Pub Shed Sign as a secret present for her Husband. She supplied the artwork.

She liked the idea of a natural edge sign about 12" (30cms) across with black lettering and deep relief carving of the central design. I glued 3 pieces of Oak together to create the blank for the sign, then started  carving it.

This is stage one with the design on the blank.

In stage two I used a Router to remove the central background. The rest of the carving was done by hand using traditional tools and techniques.

Stage two, background routed away.

Ready for painting and oiling, it was fun to do!

"It’s for our house – my husband Ben has turned his shed into a (very basic) pub. It’s a bit of a thing between a few friends, with a record player and bar etc. I thought it would be fun to have a proper sign outside. This is perfect....."

Testimonials
Gave Jane the parcel on Saturday night and she opened it....and looked pleased...but then we saw she was looking at the carved back of the board. Stewart told her to turn it over - and she then burst into tears (and Stewart welled up too as Jane is one of his oldest and dearest friends). She just loved it, and was so thrilled - as was the whole party as she proudly showed it to one and all. I can't tell you how happy you made her. Thank you so much.   Next order will be through shortly! Jx
